Solid Hardwood Flooring

Solid hardwood flooring is made up of planks that are cut out as a solid block right from the tree. The wood blocks are then sawn into solid flooring planks with tongue and grooves edges.

Engineered wood floors are real wood floors made using multiple wood or wood composite veneers. The veneers can be the same or different species. The grain of each veneer runs in different directions, which increases its stability. This means the wood will resist expanding and contracting during fluctuations in humidity and temperature. This product comes prefinished from the factory or raw.

With factory-finished wood flooring, the finish is applied at the factory. These floors require less time to install because the sanding and finishing process has already been completed. The floors are ready to walk on immediately following our installation.

With unfinished wood flooring, we will sand the wood and apply the finish on the job site. There are several finish options available. This is the best option if you are looking for a specific color or need to match existing flooring.

Solid hardwood floors obviously have a thicker wear surface meaning they can be sanded and finished more times than an engineered wood floor.

There are two basic types of hardwood floors available - solid and engineered, and three styles of installation - strip, plank, and parquetry. Each style is available in a variety of species, colours, and widths, so choosing a style is simply matter of aesthetics.

Engineered Flooring

Engineered flooring is made up of a hardwood surface glued on a plywood base. Engineered hardwood flooring was originally designed for installation in areas with variable humidity levels and heat, such as homes with radiant heating, homes on top of a concrete slab or in basements (although it can also be installed at or above ground like sold hardwood).

Engineered flooring tends to be more stable than solid hardwood and is glued directly to the sub floor or concrete slab, or it is "floated" on a concrete slab or sub floor with a moisture barrier and underlay beneath. Engineered flooring comes prefinished or raw timber which interlocks. The majority of engineered hardwood floors can actually be sanded and finished multiple times although the number of times it can be refinished depends on the thickness of the veneer; this is important because if you sand too much, you could wear away the flooring's whole layer of hardwood.

This product consists of 3-10 ply layers that are cross layered and pressed together. The top layer is a thick hardwood veneer that is glued and pressed on top of the core surface. Plywood is a common material used in the construction of the core. Engineered wood is able to withstand moisture, which makes it a superior type of flooring to solid hardwood in areas of the home prone to moisture. Its multiple-ply plank design allows for it to counteract twisting, thus keeping it stable and flat.

Parquetry

Parquet comes from a french word meaning a geometric mosaic of wood pieces used for flooring in varies sizes and is arranged in alternating or inlaid patterns to form various designs.

Parquetry has been used as a hard wearing, stunning floor covering for centuries. And it's still popular. Parquetry is supplied in two different styles: mosaic and block parquetry.

Mosaic is the more traditional style of parquetry. It is created by arranging small "fingers" of selected timber in tiles, then changing the direction of these rows at consistent intervals. The result is a beautiful floor which is a feature in your home, not just a floor covering.

Block parquetry can be laid in any pattern using contrasting coloured timbers to create depth in the design. Blocks of timber are laid individually to create the pattern of your choice. There are many popular patterns that can be laid in block parquetry, or you can run wild with your imagination and design your own floor pattern or feature block.

Parquet flooring can be positioned in a simple or complex design, generating a mosaic or geometric decorative effect.

Enhance your flooring with a wood or stone floor border thus giving your floor a personalized look by customizing patterns. Thickness, wood species or stone material variations make your floor border unique to your space.

A perfectly crafted parquet design in an investment that can last a lifetime!
